Turn Your House Into Your Dream Home With These Home ...

Hurricane socks are a sensible investment if your home is located in a region that?s at risk for hurricanes or other potential flooding dangers. They are designed to soak up as much as one gallon of water each. Put them at entry points like doors and windows.

Many homes can lose up to a fifth of their heat or cold air through the clear glass in their windows. This can be reduced by equipping large windows with a second glaze. Your electricity bills will be lower and you will still be able to have comfort in the worst temperatures.

A great preventative tip to implement to save money in the long run is to check on the caulking in the home to make sure it?s holding up. Take the time to inspect the caulk around your tub, sink and/or toilet. Many times small holes will start to show, and if moisture gets into the walls in the home, mold can grow and may cause respiratory troubles for some people. Water that seeps steadily through gaps in the caulking will collect on the floor and cause rot. Whenever you reapply, it is important to first remove all old caulking. This is vital if the new caulking is going to adhere properly and end up being waterproof.

Liven up the room with new accessories. It?s almost unbelievable how greatly placing a new picture on the wall or some new colorful pillows on the furniture can change the appearance of a room. For a high fashion look, select window treatments, pillows and tableware or vases in a coordinating color.

Chandeliers need not be reserved for mansions anymore. Some chandeliers are not very expensive at all, and can provide a very elegant look in your dining room. Look for a chandelier with total wattage in the 200 to 400-watt range to achieve maximum light and sparkle.

Ensure you plan thoroughly when you are beginning a home improvement. The decisions about your budget, timing and the exact projects you want to do much be included in your plan to avoid going over budget and taking too much time on the projects.

Are you seeking a cheap way to add elegance to your home? If you?d like to add class and elegance to your house on the cheap, replace your old doorbell with something new. By doing this, any guest coming to your home will be shown a new look to it.

If you are itching to do some home improvement, don?t be afraid to consult outside sources for inspiration. Visit the library or book store and glance through decorating magazines. Get fabric swatches, and color samples. Exploring your different options and figuring out which ones are best for your situation can make the project itself move a lot faster and more smoothly.

Always look around for greater deals when purchasing products for your renovation. If you put down new flooring, it can be expensive and a price comparison is helpful in these instances. Seek prices and quotes from discount suppliers and local home improvement centers.

It is important to use cement backer boards anywhere there will be moisture. These back boards prevent moisture from entering drywall. When water meets the drywall, mildew and mold can form.

As you can see by now, home improvement doesn?t have to be difficult. Home renovations not only improve your home?s value, but also improve the comfort of your home. When you use the tips laid out here, you give yourself the information you need to do another project.

Mulroneys are parade marshals

Every time the Frontier Days parade headed down Central Avenue in Fort Dodge for the past 20 years, Mike and Cindy Mulroney were too busy to watch most of it.

That's because they were doing all the chores needed to make the annual event happen flawlessly.

The Mulroneys were the principal organizers of the parade from 1992 to 2011. But this year, they'll be leading it as the grand marshals. And after they ride down Central Avenue wearing the traditional blue cavalry hats, they will sit in the reviewing stand to relax and watch the parade.

The Fort Dodge couple was recently named the parade grand marshals by the committee organizing this year's Frontier Days event.

''The Mulroneys' continous community service, hard work and dedication make them exactly what Fort Dodge is all about,'' Kerk Friday, a member of the Frontier Days committee, said in a written statement.

Mike Mulroney said he and his wife were ''just kind of amazed that we would be selected.''

He said that in the past, the parade grand marshals were people with what he called a ''big vision'' for the community. As examples, he cited Bill Ryan, who established Frontier Days, and Leo Crimmins, a successful businessman who donated a building to Iowa Central Community College.

Cindy Mulroney said she and her husband weren't the only people who made the annual parades a success. She said businesses provided supplies and dozens of volunteers offered their time.

''People just volunteered,'' she said. ''If we forgot to contact people, they would contact us.''

Mike and Cindy Mulroney weren't the only ones in their family working on the parade. Their son, Michael, worked right alongside them,

''He's always, always been our right-hand man,'' she said.

The Mulroneys moved to Fort Dodge in 1991, and watched the Frontier Days parade that year. Cindy Mulroney recalled that they stood in the 1300 block of Central Avenue to watch it. She added that there was a torrential downpour that day.

Mike Mulroney said they both wanted to get involved in their new community, so he approached Ryan about helping with Frontier Days. Ryan invited them to a planning meeting.

''We came back to the second meeting and they said, you're in charge of the parade,'' he said.

They were commissioned as captains in the parade corps of the Fort Dodge Dragoons, the organization which used to organize Frontier Days.

Cindy Mulroney said they enjoyed working on the parade every year.

''It's been our pleasure, honestly,'' she said.

CERN scientists explain what would happen if you put your hand in the LHC's beam (video)

CERN scientists explain what would happen if you put your hand in the LHC's beam (video)

Sure, concerns about the Large Hadron Collider creating a world-destroying black hole may have been more or less put to rest, but there's still plenty of pressing questions that remain unanswered. Like, what would happen if you put your hand in the beam? The folks from Sixty Symbols recently asked some physicists that very question and got some rather puzzled responses, so they went straight to CERN itself to get a definitive answer. You can see that in full after the break, but the short version is that it's something like the force of a moving aircraft carrier concentrated down to a laser-like one-millimeter-wide beam (accompanied by a wider beam of particles that would irradiate your entire body). Bad news. As they're quick to point out, though, actually getting anywhere near the beam is virtually impossible.

Prodigy Hooks Up With T.I., Wiz Khalifa For H.N.I.C. 3

'I wanted to use people that were kinda hard to get and also you wouldn't think that I would collab with them,' P tells 'RapFix Live.'

There was a time when Prodigy refused high-powered collaborations: When his Mobb Deep partner Havoc urged Pee to jump on the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1997 "Last Day," a song Hav produced, Prodigy declined.

Those days are over, and on Prodigy's upcoming H.N.I.C. 3 LP, fans can expect to hear not only V.I.P., but T.I., Wiz Khalifa, Havoc and Willie from Day 26 as well.

"I wanted to use people that were kinda hard to get and also you wouldn't think that I would collab with them," Prodigy told "RapFix Live" host Sway Calloway on Wednesday's show. "You wouldn't think that Pee would have a song with them right now."

Prodigy didn't yet have a title for the track with T.I. because the pair had just finished recording it Tuesday night, but he was able to dish a bit on the song with the Taylor Gang captain: "The Wiz record is called 'Co-Pilot.' That one is dope," he bragged with a sheepish grin.

Fans will have to hold out until July 3 to hear H.N.I.C. 3 in full, but Pee promises it will be well worth the wait. It's been four years since he released H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, and while the original H.N.I.C. is well-regarded in hip-hop circles, Prodigy admits to rushing production on the second installment. "I had a limited amount of space to do it before I had to turn myself in," he said of his three-year jail stint for gun possession.

Most of the material for the next LP, however, was written during his incarceration. "The third one, I spent a lot of time working on it. I did my little bid, there years or whatever, and that's basically when I was writing most of this album," Prodigy explained. "So, I got to really take my time with the concepts, the lyrics, how I want it to be, be really precise with it and really come up with something that can last a long time."

What's your favorite Prodigy collaboration of all time? Let us know in the comments!

Robert Pattinson is on a roll, Twilighters. It was just announced that the beloved actor has joined director David Michod's "The Rover," also starring Guy Pearce.

While there is little known about the project, Deadline Hollywood reports the film takes place in the near future and follows a man (Pearce) who ruthlessly hunts a group of thieves through the rough Australian outback after they steal his car. Pattinson will play a thief named Reynolds. According to Variety, Michod will pen the script based on an original idea from "Animal Kingdom" star Joel Edgerton and himself. David Linde and Liz Watts are set to produce under Lava Bear Films and Porchlight Films.

The news immediately follows the announcement that Pattinson signed on for "Mission: Blacklist," the movie adaptation of Eric Maddox's book "Mission: Blacklist #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein — As Told by the Soldier Who Masterminded His Capture." The actor will star as the man who led the hunt.

Both "Rover" and "Mission" are still in development, but Pattinson has a busy year ahead of him. He travels to the Cannes Film Festival to promote David Cronenberg's mind-tripping "Cosmopolis" and closes out "The Twilight Saga" as Edward Cullen one last time in "Breaking Dawn - Part 2." Also available on VOD beginning Friday is the titillating drama "Bel Ami," which opens in Los Angeles, New York and select cities June 8.

Samsung: The Death Of The Spec Gives Way To The Birth Of The Human Touch

galaxys3If we have reached the Death of the Spec, then what Samsung wanted to introduce us to today was nothing short of the birth of the human touch. In the presentation launching the Galaxy S III, the first full half hour was very light on specs, with mention of only one -- the size of the screen (4.8"-huge). Instead, what we got was long on references to intuitive design, with lots of non-tech buzzwords: "nature," "organic," and so on. The Galaxy S III is "really designed for humans" the company said today, again and again.
