Before you start saying ?oh gross? let me tell you that is not what you think. I recently came across butter in the shape of a turkey. I mean an actual 3D turkey and my mother had to have it. That got me thinking and I though this would be a great sort of project for Cooking with Kids.
Unless you or your children are really artistic than a 3D turkey free handed will not be an easy task but if you think you can do it, go for it. I found that using molds work the best. For children the plain old basic cookie cutters or even candy molds are perfect. If you can find the candy molds that are really small then you can do several. There are a few 3D cake molds but you need to find a small size for it to work.
Tub butter does not hold it?s shape as well as stick butter does. Stick butter just seems to hold up better because it is firmer while tub butter is easier to mold. Creating your masterpiece is very easy; have your children select a mold they like and then place the mold onto wax paper. Next push the butter into the mold making sure to?completely?fill the mold. Place in the?refrigerator?to set up for about 2 hours. Carefully lift the mold off and you are all set.
